The Hupac AG (officially ital .: Hupac SA ) is a trans-Alpine freight traffic on the rail line operating Swiss group of companies. It operates both accompanied (full semitrailer ) and unaccompanied (only semi-trailers or sea containers without towing vehicle ) so-called combined or intermodal transport . The name was derived from Hu cke pac k, the name no longer in use for combined freight transport. The head office is in the border town of Chiasso in the canton of Ticino . Bernhard Kunz is the director of the Hupac Group, which at the end of 2017 consisted of 18 companies based in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia and China.

At the end of 2017, Hupac had a total of 470 employees and in 2017 achieved sales of 485.6 million Swiss francs . The company transported a total of 763,101 road consignments (2009: 607,284) with a total weight of 14.36 million tonnes (2009: 10.7 million tonnes) with 110 trains per day , of which 508,893 road consignments or 9.7 million tonnes in transalpine traffic.

Transport and forwarding companies from Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria and the Netherlands hold 72% of the share capital of 20 million francs, as well as several railway companies with 28%. For its part, Hupac AG holds significant minority stakes in various companies in the field of combined transport , including the combined transport operators Cemat and RAlpin , the terminal company Combinant and the data processing service provider Cesar Information Services.

Since the aim of Swiss transport policy is to shift freight traffic across the Alps from road to rail, Hupac can count on state funding from fuel tariffs. For example, the terminals in Busto Arsizio - Gallarate in northern Italy and Singen (Hohentwiel) were financed with such subsidies from Switzerland.
