The RAlpin AG , based in Olten is a Swiss transport company in accompanied combined freight transport . It is the operating company of the “ Rolling Autobahn ” (RA, Rola) between Freiburg im Breisgau and Novara .

history

As early as 1981, Hupac AG established a Rola connection between Freiburg im Breisgau and Milano Greco Pirelli . From the end of the 1980s, efforts were intensified to shift transalpine freight traffic from the road back to the rail. The law on the performance-related heavy vehicle charge (LSVA) was adopted by the voters in 1998, the contract for the expansion and operation of the "Rolling Autobahn" (RA) was then awarded in 1999 to the "RAlpin" working group - a play on words from "RA" and "alpin" composed of BLS, SBB and Hupac.

The company was founded as a stock corporation based in Bern on April 4, 2001, with BLS Lötschbergbahn AG , Hupac SA and SBB Cargo AG as shareholders. In the course of 2002 Trenitalia SpA also took part in the share capital.

The corporate structure was revised in 2006 and the headquarters moved to Olten on June 1st. In December 2010 the share capital was increased in order to invest more in own property, plant and equipment. For this purpose, 20 couchette cars (Bcm 51) from SBB were taken over; these were modernized by 2012 and are used as Rola escort cars. At the beginning of 2012, the company's own workshop in Wangen near Olten was able to start operations; this takes care of the maintenance of the wheelsets of the low-floor flat wagons.

At the beginning of 2011 RAlpin also took over the Rola connection between Basel ( Kleinhüningen port ) and Lugano (Vedeggio freight yard) via Gotthard from Hupac. This connection was discontinued in 2018.
