Crossy Road

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crossy Road was founded on November 20, 2014 by Yodo1 Ltd. released mobile game developed by Andy Sum, Matt Hall and Ben Weatherall for the Australian company Hipster Whale . It is a further development of the much older game Frogger .

Gameplay

Main game

The aim of the game is to get as far as possible over streets, rivers, rails and grass sections with the respective character. There are various dangers, the occurrence of which ends the game round: You can be run over by cars on the street and by trains on rails. In the rivers you can drown or - with an "Australian figure" - be eaten by a crocodile. Also, if you wait too long without moving forward, the game is over. Then a bird of prey comes and takes the figure with it.

Points are awarded for each section of the path crossed, whereby only forward movements count. After every 50 points the player receives a signal, with a new high score this is also displayed. The figure is moved by tapping or swiping in the respective direction.

characters

Coins can be collected in the game. For every 100 coins you can open a package at the price machine, which contains a randomly selected character. In addition, characters can be specifically activated through in-app purchases. The figures are not completely the same on all platforms.

Secret characters

Some figures cannot be won with the prize machine, but have to be won in the game, for example by reaching a high score with a certain normal figure. The developers Andy Sum, Matt Hall and Ben Weatherall have immortalized themselves in the game with characters of the same name.

Gifts

At certain intervals (at the beginning 3 minutes, at the end 3 hours) you receive additional coins in random numbers.

development

Originally, the developers only wanted to spend six weeks developing the game. However, after realizing its potential, they spent six more.

reception

The game was a finalist for 2014 Game of the Year at the Australian Game Developer Awards. Overall, the game received mostly good reviews.
