Company history
Crown was founded in 1945 by Carl H. Dicke and Allen A. Dicke. The company is now run by the fourth generation of the Dicke family. Since its inception, Crown has grown from a small business to a global company.
In the pioneering years, the craft business produced temperature regulators for coal kilns. These systems were handcrafted in the building of a former hardware store in New Bremen. Due to the slump in demand for coal stoves, the company shifted its production focus from 1949 and manufactured antenna rotors to improve television reception. Crown developed into one of the leading manufacturers of these devices until a slump in demand due to the widespread introduction of cable television in October 2001 led to the discontinuation of production.
In 1957, Crown entered the industrial truck industry. The company initially started with the production of niche vehicles. Today, Crown manufactures a wide range of mainly electrically powered industrial trucks for a wide variety of applications in logistics, industry and trade. The range includes forklift trucks, pallet stackers, “man-up” forklifts, reach trucks, high-bay forklifts, counterbalance trucks, forklifts and tugs. In 1968 Crown took over a production facility for the manufacture of pallet trucks from the German company Steinbock in Roding, Bavaria . In the 1980s, the company opened its European headquarters in Munich.
