Cruisemapper.com ( own spelling : CruiseMapper ) is a website published in 2013 that provides information on cruise ships worldwide. It offers a so-called " tracker " with which one can determine the position of cruise ships worldwide, as well as information on ports worldwide and the ships themselves. In addition, Cruisemapper.com currently lists over 3300 accidents under the item " Accidents " in cooperation with Cruise Minus on board cruise ships and during excursions by passengers ashore.
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote about Cruisemapper.com in the course of an accident in Budapest in June 2019 :
“It is difficult to judge their seriousness; but it does provide a lot of information about cruises and you can see where a particular ship is. There is also a list of currently 2977 accidents and incidents, in which 470 of the 1346 ships recorded were involved in the past ten years or more.
The number seems high, which is partly due to the fact that engine damage, crimes or the outbreak of the norovirus are also registered. According to the information on the homepage, sources are the American Coast Guard, media and police reports and reports from users. The major accidents of recent years that have been reported in the conventional media are correctly recorded. "
