Germania Schönau was a sports club in the German Empire with its headquarters in today's Chemnitz district of Schönau in Saxony .

history

The club first appeared in records for the 1907/08 season. At that time, the team was playing in the sub-class in the South West Saxony region . After that, nothing is known about the sporting league membership until the 1944/45 season. For this season the team was in the group of Chemnitz in the Season 2 of Gauliga Saxony incorporated. Since the game was already canceled in December 1944 due to the advancing Second World War , the team only played three games. At that time, the team was in fifth place in the table with 10:15 goals and 2: 4 points. From this season there is a 5: 4 defeat at Chemnitzer BC , as well as a 2: 5 win over SV Grüna .

After the end of the war, the association was also dissolved. As everywhere in the Soviet Occupation Zone , community sports groups were formed; including in Schönau the SG Schönau . The SG Schönau played in the league of the Chemnitz soccer district until 1948, which was at the top of the league in Saxony due to the lack of national leagues. In the season 1946/47 the SG Schönau took fourth place and in the season 1947/48 the twelfth and last rank, which meant the descent into the lower class.

Schönau, an industrial suburb of Chemnitz and originally an independent municipality, was incorporated into the city of Chemnitz in 1950.
