Sylvia Sperandio
Sylvia Sperandio , also Sylvia-Carolina Sperandio, (born 1966 in Vöcklabruck ) is an Austrian doctor and officer .
Life
After graduating, she studied human medicine at the University of Vienna , where she did her doctorate in 1993. In 2014, she obtained a doctorate in psychotherapy science from the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna and an MBA in health care management from the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt .
For some time she was the civilian medical director of the Hörsching military hospital. Soon after the opening of the Austrian Armed Forces to women, she was one of the first women soldiers to join the Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion 3 in Mistelbach in June 1998.
Her appointment as an officer in the military medical service was the first historically known officer appointment of a woman since the establishment of the Federal Army of the Republic of Austria.
Her career levels included:
- Head of the specialist outpatient clinic at Military Hospital 2 in Innsbruck
- Commander of the Upper Austrian Sanitary Institution, special hospital for army members and thus also the medical director of this special hospital (as the first female commander)
- Consultant for military aviation medicine and NBC defense medicine at the Federal Ministry for National Defense
- since 2017 head of the military health system in the general rank of brigadier.
She is also a member of the Disciplinary Commission for Army Soldiers, Deputy Chairwoman of the Working Group on Equal Treatment Issues and an advisory body to the Parliamentary Armed Forces Commission.
Sperandio performed disasters in Austria and outside of Austria / humanitarian aid for the Austrian Armed Forces, UNDAC (United Nation Disaster Assessment Coordination) and the EU Civil Protection Mechanism
Sperandio in addition to its activity in the army as a practicing doctor for general medicine in Amstetten operates. She specializes in traditional Chinese medicine , among other things .
