Cubo del Sur

The Cubo del Sur is a structure in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .

The parapet fortress built around 1760 is located in the south of Ciudad Vieja at the point where Calle Treinta y Tres and Rambla Gran Bretaña meet . The military engineer Francisco Rodríguez Cardoso was originally responsible for the construction . In 1789 it was rebuilt and rebuilt by José Pérez Brito , who was also a military engineer. Extensions and improvements to the fortress were then carried out between 1808 and 1812 under the direction of José del Pozos . Partial destruction took place around 1843. The reconstruction in 1943 was led by architect Eugenio Baroffio .

Cubo del Sur has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
