Cum ex apostolatus officio

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cum ex apostolatus officio is the name of a papal bull that Pope Paul IV wrote on February 15, 1559 .

Among other things, it contains the basic statement that a cardinal who has clearly apostated from the faith loses his active and passive right to vote in an election for the Pope . Should a bishop , archbishop , cardinal or pope deviate from the Catholic faith before his election, his survey, even if it was made with the unanimous consent of all cardinals, is to be regarded as null and void and worthless. Among other things, it is believed that Paul IV wrote the bull to prevent a possible election of the popular Cardinal Morone .
