Live and act

Reitel grew up in the GDR in a family shaped by the SAG Wismut . The East-West dichotomy that emerged in everyday life in the GDR was one of his early subjects. In 1978 and 1981 he was arrested by the Ministry of State Security and sentenced to six months 'youth imprisonment for disregarding state symbols and 48 months' imprisonment for preparing for treasonous communications. The second conviction was exactly preceded by a "protest in poster form" (Federal Archives Berlin) that took place on Friday, February 13, 1981 in Plauen. On the mediation of his brother Ralf Reitel , who was engaged as an actor in Rudolstadt at the time , he became Prisoner of Conscience of Amnesty International from 1981 . The Swedish Group No. 551 and Group No. 105 in St. Louis, Missouri, from ai.

In December 1981 Reitel took part in a protest of a total of 350 political prisoners in the Cottbus prison, which lasted several days , against the imposition of martial law in Poland and out of sympathy for the new Polish trade union movement Solidarność .

On August 4, 1982, his was made ransom by the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1984 his prose debut appeared in the Polish exile magazine Archipelag, published in West Berlin . Also in 1984 he fathered a daughter .

From 1985 to 1990 Reitel studied journalism , French and Spanish at the Free University of Berlin (West) and art history and philosophy at the Technical University of Berlin (West). During his student days at the Berlin Technical University, he founded a singer and composer with fellow students Frank Runge (p, key, b, dr, voc) and Martin Walter (g, key, fl) from jazz , the music of the Beatles and the Doors influenced rock band, "First Lesson," which lasted until 1988. From 1986 to 1990 Reitel worked alongside his studies as a stage technician at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz and at the Theater des Westens .

On November 18, 1989, Reitel, together with Bernd Markowsky, Udo Preissler and Utz Rachowski , called for the disclosure of political justice and its methods, the release of all political prisoners and their rehabilitation in the daily newspaper . On December 2, 1989, Jürgen Fuchs gave the opening speech of the Wolf Biermann Concert, GDR writer in exile in Germany. The appeal, signed by 77 authors, including Reitel, was handed over to the Minister of Culture Dietmar Keller .

Reitel has been a freelance author since 1990. He writes prose , poetry , essay and songs . His main theme is "The Germans and the Open Society". After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Reitel went back to his hometown. In April 1990 there was a joint reading with Jürgen Fuchs in the reopened Club Malzhaus. Ten years earlier, in March 1980, he and Jürgen Ertel gave a lecture based on a manuscript on Jim Morrison , the Dionysian and the power of music. In 1982 the club was banned by the Stasi. From 1990 to 1997 Reitel wrote for Die Welt and Berliner Morgenpost, among others . In 1999 Reitel set the poem Love by Dagmar Hilarová , which was written in 1944 in the Theresienstadt concentration camp , to music , as well as the poem headlights by Jürgen Fuchs . Both songs were released on the CD without knocking . The first performance of the headlights took place on May 26, 1999 at the memorial event for Jürgen Fuchs in the Friedrich Schiller University Jena .

In September 1999 Reitel organized a veritable appeal by well-known cultural workers to the Turkish judiciary to withdraw the charges against the Turkish journalist Nadire Mater .

From 2000 to 2001, Reitel researched the penal system for young people in the GDR with grants from the Federal Foundation for Coming to terms with the SED dictatorship . The publication was published in the series in- kind contributions in 2002 by the State Commissioner for Saxony-Anhalt .

From June 2007 to May 2008 he worked on the project “History of the FDJ Poetry Seminars ” at the SED State Research Association of the Free University of Berlin . The project was concluded with a publication (working papers 42/2008).

Artistic stylistic devices

The stylistic devices developed by Reitel determine a story entrusted “entirely to language”, especially in prose. What is to be told is reported in a contingent mixture of “fiction and reality”. Reitel's characters move “in fables that keep opening up”.
