Ostragehege is a literary magazine , which u. a. is dedicated to the encounter between Central and Eastern European cultures and was published for the first time in 1994.

Edition and cooperation

"Ostragehege" is being relocated in Dresden and is published quarterly with around 60 pages. Poetry , prose and essays by contemporary authors are printed . A unique selling point among the 450 literary magazines and newspapers in Germany is that "Ostragehege" had " printed translations from all Slavic languages " up to 2010 . The publication of each new issue of “Ostragehege” is accompanied by reading events with an author included in it. The magazine would also like to "[mirror] Dresden as a music, art and museum landscape."

The editor, LITERARISCHE ARENA e. V., cooperates with literary associations on a national and international level.

Rubrics

The section “Situation discussion - Young German-language poetry” is dedicated to the up-and-coming generation of authors (some with literary debut ): “Book publishers use the magazine as a truffle finder on the literary market.” In the “Interview” section, well-established writers have their say "Intensive questioning about her poetological and work backgrounds".

According to the publisher, the magazine does not approach authors and does not award any orders, but uses around 80 of the approximately 1,500 articles it receives annually - all of them first publications. The editors select the submissions according to “quality criteria” (such as the “special tone, your own rhythm, the exclusivity of the message, the relationship between form and content, experiment and tradition”). Due to its size, only short dramatic texts and partly abbreviated prose texts are published in addition to poetry. The editorial team has deliberately avoided columnist and scientific literature.

Title "Ostragehege"

The title refers to the city of Dresden Ostragehege whose name in turn to the Slavic word ostrov - stromumflossenes Eiland points. The magazine therefore understands the title “Ostragehege” as a suitable metaphor for the situation of literature in the flow of neighboring language areas: in addition to the Sorbian, the Polish and Czech literary traditions .
