Steffen Popp (born July 18, 1978 in Greifswald ) is a German writer .

life and work

Steffen Popp grew up in Dresden and attended a special science school there. He studied at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig , later literary studies and philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin . His volumes of poetry such as Alpen , Kolonie Zur Sonne and Thicket with Speeches and Eyes received great critical acclaim; his novel, or the way there , has won several awards and has been nominated for the German Book Prize. He translated u. a. Poems by American poets Christian Hawkey andBen Lerner and Elizabeth Bishop . Poems by Steffen Popp appear regularly in the FAZ , have been translated into numerous languages ​​and represented in authoritative anthologies. His volume of poetry 118 was on the shortlist for the Leipzig Book Fair 2017 award .

In autumn 2018 Popp was accepted into the German Academy for Language and Poetry . Steffen Popp lives in Berlin .
