Writing book , magazine for literature, is a magazine for international literature.

history

The exercise book, founded in 1977 by Wilfried H. Bienek and Ulrich Homann, has been published by Norbert Wehr in Essen since 1982 . It is considered to be one of the leading literary magazines in German-speaking countries and has received numerous awards.

In 1998, a five-volume reprint was published by Verlag Zweiausendeins (an award that had previously only been given to Karl Kraus ' Die Fackel , Klaus Mann's Die Sammlung , Alfred Andersch's Texts and Signs , Peter Huchel's Sinn und Form and Hans Benders and Michael Krüger's Accents ).

The editorial concept of the magazine developed by Norbert Wehr consists in dividing an object - be it an author, a book, a literary group, be it the literature of a language - into focus dossiers and as many quotes from literary, biographical, to gather translational or scientific discussions. No potpourris should arise in this way, no additions of good and important texts, rather the aim is to stage a conversation between writers, their books and concepts as well as to create congenial echo spaces and communicating tube systems.

With this claim, the exercise book has tried to track down advanced literary concepts in international literatures, that is, it has undertaken extensive forays into the literatures of France, America and the former Soviet Union, has compiled dossiers on individual authors (for example on Louis-Ferdinand Céline , Malcolm Lowry , Hubert Fichte , Danilo Kiš , James Hamilton-Paterson , William Gass , Richard Powers , Mário de Sá-Carneiro , Louis Zukofsky , Helmut Heißenbüttel , Ezra Pound , Pier Paolo Pasolini , Inger Christensen ), small for the literatures early on Countries interested (for example the Dutch , Belgian , Danish , Norwegian , Polish and Croatian) and has repeatedly reminded of authors who stood on the threshold of modernity and who were pioneering writers who write today.

content

“The exercise book is the unique alpha and omega of all advanced (world) literature connoisseurs and lovers. A wide field that is cultivated twice a year, on which one hears a) the coming grass growing and b) is harvested in an essay-like manner. "(Frankfurter Rundschau)
