Christian Hawkey

Christian Hawkey (* 1969 in Hackensack , New Jersey ) is an American poet , translator , editor and professor.

Life

Hawkey studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst , where he also founded the poetry magazine jubilat and published the first ten issues . He is a professor at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn , New York City (English Department, Writing for Publication, Performance, Media Program). In 2008 he was a guest of the DAAD artist program in Berlin. In 2012 he founded The Office of Recuperative Strategies (OoRS) with Rachel Levitsky .

He is the author of several volumes of poetry, including Sonne from Ort , Ventrakl, Citizen Of , The Book of Funnels and various Chapbooks . A selection from his poetry volumes Citizen Of and The Book of Funnels has been translated into German by Steffen Popp and Uljana Wolf ( Reisen in Ziegen Speed , kookbooks , Berlin 2007), and individual poems have also been translated into numerous other languages. He himself translated poems by the German poets Daniel Falb , Sabine Scho and Steffen Popp, as well as texts by Ilse Aichinger .

Hawkey lives in New York City and Berlin. He is married to the German poet and translator Uljana Wolf.
