Timarete
Timarete , probably active in the Hellenistic period, was a Greek painter from Athens. She was the daughter of a painter named Mikon, probably not the famous painter Mikon , and was particularly praised for an ancient painting of Artemis at Ephesus . Pliny the Elder , Naturalis historia 35, 147 names her the first of the painters, even before Eirene , Kalypso , Aristarete , Iaia and Olympias .
