Ludvík Kundera (born March 22, 1920 in Brno , † August 17, 2010 in Boskovice ) was a Czech writer . He was considered a surrealist and was best known for ironic-satirical poems, stories and essays.

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Leitmeritz in 1938 , Kundera enrolled in the philosophical faculty of Charles University in Prague, but moved to Brno , where he was surprised by the closure of the universities in the course of the German occupation. That is why he did not finish his studies until 1946. He also wrote during his time as a forced laborer in Berlin-Spandau . After the war he became a founding member of the surrealist artists' association Skupina RA , whose manifesto, the article Mladší surrealisté , he wrote in 1945 together with Zdeněk Lorenc . His play The total cock crow (Totální kuropění), published in 1961, alternates between verse, prose and vocal parts. Since 1967 he has been a member of the PEN , since 2001 of the international Franz Fühmann Circle of Friends ( International Franz Fühmann Circle of Friends ). Since the 1950s Kundera had a working relationship with Franz Fühmann , which later became a friendship, from which the two anthologies "Die Glasträne" (1964, 1966) and "Die Sonnenuhr" (1987, expanded 1993) emerged.

From 1968 to 1970 Kundera was chief dramaturge at the Brno Theater . After the publication ban was issued, he published in samizdat and published a samizdat edition from 1973 to 1975, Host do domu (guest in the house). From 1976 he lived in Kunštát ( Moravia ) until his death . From 1990 to 1999 Kundera was entrusted with guest lectures at universities in Brno and Olomouc . The Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno awarded him an honorary doctorate . An extensive edition of works has been published since the late 1990s . He was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Saxon Academy of the Arts . Kundera belonged to the Obec spisovatelů . He was the nephew of the pianist Ludvík Kundera and the cousin of the writer Milan Kundera .

On October 28, 2007, the Czech national holiday, he was awarded the medal for services to the Czech state in the field of culture and art by President Václav Klaus .
