Obec spisovatelů

Obec spisovatelů (German: "Writers' community"; English: "Society of Czech Writers") is a voluntary association of writers in the Czech Republic .

The association was founded in 1989 as an organization of Czech (= Bohemian and Moravian ) writers, literary researchers and literary critics. The criterion for admission to the association, which is based on voluntary participation, is verifiable literary activity. In addition to individuals, organizations and associations can also apply for membership.

The association Obec spisovatelů (OS) is at the same time an interest group that has set itself the task of representing the creative, professional, social and material interests and rights of its members.

In addition to holding events, including those for foreign translators, festivals are also organized to encourage encounters and the exchange of experiences.

The members are represented as judges in various organizations, including the Státní cena za literaturu (State Literature Prize), Jaroslav Seifert Prize , Tom Stoppard Prize, Egon Erwin Kisch Prize, Knižní klub (Book Club Prize), Jiří -Places -Price.

The work of the association is published in its own organ Dokořán (Eng .: “Sperrangelweit open”).

In 1992, together with other artists' associations, Rada uměleckých obcí (RUO), (Council of Artistic Communities) was founded, which is an active member of the transnational organization European Council of Artists (ECA, based in Copenhagen ).
