Alexandr Kliment

Alexandr Kliment , also Alexandr Klimentiev (born January 30, 1929 in Turnov ; † March 22, 2017 ) was a Czech prose writer , author of psychological novels and poet .

Until 1970 Kliment worked as a publishing editor and film dramaturge . Because of his active participation in the Prague Spring , he was no longer allowed to work in public and worked as a night watchman, ambulance driver and proofreader. He was a signatory to Charter 77 .

His first work Marie tells of the breakup of a family and captivates with the psychologically detailed description of the people. His collection of stories Meet Before Departure (Setkání před odjezdem) is of the same kind. The clock with the fountain (Hodinky s vodotryskem) tells of the derailments of a retired life, which resulted in the revelation of the reasons. His other two novels were no longer allowed to be published in Czechoslovakia and were printed abroad.
