Eva Kantůrková
Eva Kantůrková (born May 11, 1930 in Prague ) is a Czech prose writer, dramaturge and former dissident.
Life
Eva Kantůrková comes from a family of writers. Her father Jiří Síla was a communist journalist, her mother Bohumila Sílová a writer. After completing her studies in philosophy at Charles University in Prague in 1956, she worked for the Youth Association (Svaz mládeže) until 1958 and at the Czechoslovak Institute for Book Culture until 1967. After that she devoted herself only to literature. She was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and got involved in the Prague Spring 1968. In 1970 she resigned from the party and her works were banned. From then on, Kantůrková wrote for exile magazines and published her works in exile publishers. She was a signatory to Charter 77 and from January 6, 1985 to January 7, 1986 its spokesperson. As a dissident, she was detained from May 6, 1981 to March 22, 1982. After the Velvet Revolution , she got involved in the citizens' forum (Občanské fórum). From 1990 to 1992 she was a member of the Czech National Council.

- Smuteční slavnost, 1967 - A socially critical novel. It describes the funeral of a communist functionary. The reader is led back to the time of the communists' seizure of power in 1948, and learns of the nationalization of property and the collectivization of agriculture.
- Po potopě, 1969 - novel. The heroine, painter and mother of an adolescent girl breaks down mentally after separating from her husband.
- Nulový bod, 1970 - A ministry official was deprived of his career in 1948. Things go wrong in his life too and he thinks of suicide.
- Černá hvězda, Cologne 1982, Prague 1992 - The fate of a left-wing journalist who experienced the time of disillusionment and the decline of the values of life.
