Ivan Binar

Ivan Binar (born June 25, 1942 in Boskovice ) is a Czech writer and translator .

Life

Binar graduated from high school in 1959, and then studied the Czech language , history and art at the Pedagogical Institute in Ostrava . After finishing his studies (1963) he became a teacher at the elementary school. He worked in the youth center and edited the magazine Tramp . His first publications appeared in newspapers and after 1965 he was involved in the student theater in Ostrava. In 1971 he was imprisoned for causing public nuisance, which he is said to have initiated during the performance of the musical The Son de Regiments (Syn pluku). In 1973 he returned, had to do auxiliary work and began to write. In 1977 he emigrated to Austria ( Vienna ). Here he translates books and restores ceramic art objects. In 1983 he moved to Munich . He becomes an editor at Radio Free Europe . In 1994 he returned to Prague and started writing again. From 2003 to 2004 he became chairman of the Obec spisovatelů writers' association .

His work is strongly influenced by the Beat Generation . He spreads the idea that it is important to find and maintain inner freedom. He describes what happens to people in a strange world, a view that is a result of the communist regime.
