The Zwiebelzwerg Verlag is a German publisher in Willebadessen . It was founded in 1977 by Gregor Schell in Düsseldorf; for a short time he had a second partner who left the company at the end of 1984. In 1985 the publishing house was converted from a GmbH into an owner company, and a year later a branch opened in Altenbeken-Buke. In 1988 the publishing house moved to the north wing of the former Benedictine monastery in Willebadessen ; In 1994 a house was purchased in the village, in which the Zwiebelzwerg publishing house has resided ever since.
Publications
The publisher had initially published smaller volumes of poetry and literary magazines; from 1979 also the " Düsseldorfer Musikzeitung ", at times with a circulation of tens of thousands of copies as a mouthpiece for musicians from the young German music scene around Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hagen and Moers. In 1981 the publishing house started the "Caspar newspaper for peace with children" in cooperation with various scientists and authors, u. a. Hans A. Pestalozzi .
To date, more than 900 titles have been published; known is the publisher u. a. for his over 50 anthologies .
In 1977 Thomas Kling published his first volume of poetry, The State Before Falling, in the Zwiebelzwerg Verlag - after preparatory work with the publisher, while still at school. Edward Kienholz gave Thomas Kling the only known interview in German in the magazine "Zwiebelzwerg-Zeitschrift für Kunst und Sozial". Joseph Beuys made drawings available to the publisher for printing. At the end of the 1970s and beginning of the 1980s, the Zwiebelzwerg Verlag was the mouthpiece of the AL (Alternative List) in Düsseldorf. In 1987 the book Tohuwabohus Tanz im Kopf by Heike Laufenburg and Gregor Schell, also published in Braille , came out.
Since 2007, the Zwiebelzwerg Verlag has been publishing a series of books on Turkish legends from the primary collection of Prof. Necati Demir at the University of Sivas , and since 2009 at the University of Ankara . This is not only intended to protect the originally oral tradition of Turkish sagas from being forgotten, but also to translate it into German. Books for adults are published in German and a book series with 24 volumes for children in German and Turkish. The books are translated by I. Özbakir and illustrated by Heike Laufenburg. The works are presented on a separate homepage, the children's books are completely available as a free download.
In addition to the Turkish-German sagas, there are also a large number of local titles for children and young people, so that by 2015 fairy tales and children's books will already account for a good third of the titles published. Although the focus is on the printed text, the books are illustrated in many ways and provided with colored watercolors.
Not only in the children's book area, but also in the publication of general fiction, bilingual books have been published since the publishing house was founded, in which foreign-language books are added to the German texts. Books in Finnish, Swedish, Italian, Turkish, Romansh, Tyrolean dialect and other languages appeared early on.
Since 2010 the publisher has also been publishing special editions with original graphics as well as hand-bound artist books in the "Edition Heike Laufenburg" in small editions. These books should represent a connection between medieval book ideas and modern artistic design.
Authors
In the past, books by well-known women's rights activists such as Lily Braun , Hedwig Dohm and Bertha von Suttner appeared . Important authors of the first years were u. a. Thomas Kling , Frantisek Halas , Andreas F. Kelletat , Manfred Peter Hein , Klaus De Rottwinkel , Sabine Werz and Heike Laufenburg . In the later years the books of many authors from home and abroad were published. Among others: Uwe Berger , Brigitta Weiss , Harald K. Hülsmann , Adam Inczédy-Gombos, Asa Moberg, Dirk Stermann , Heinz Oelfke , Nicoleta Craita Ten'o .
