Andreas F. Kelletat

Andreas F. Kelletat (* 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German literary and translation scholar and writer. Since 1993 he has been working as a professor for intercultural German studies in the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim .

Life

Andreas F. Kelletat was born in Hamburg in 1954. After his civil service 1975–1977 he studied German , East European history , Scandinavian studies with Fen Studies , Russian studies and art history at the University of Cologne from 1977–1983 . In 1983 he wrote his dissertation with Walter Hinck on the subject of Herder and world literature. On the history of translation in the 18th century .

1986–1992 he worked as a professor for German language at the University of Vaasa and was head of the Institute for German Language and Literature. He was also dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Vaasa University and a member of the Senate. 1992–1993 Kelletat was Professor of German Literature and Comparative Literature at the same university.

In 1993 he returned to Germany and took over the professorship for Intercultural German Studies at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FASK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim. From 1993 to 2005 he was head of the international doctoral group for the subjects of Intercultural German Studies / Translation Studies. From 1998 to 2016 he was director of the International Summer School Germersheim (ISG).

Since 1984 he has been visiting Denmark , Finland , France , Iran , Iceland , Italy , Japan , Korea , Latvia , Lithuania , Palestine , Poland , Romania , Russia , Sweden , Switzerland , South Africa , Thailand and Turkey for teaching and research .

His research interests are translation studies , European language policy, German culture in an international context, exile and migrant literature, Europe of religions, literary relations between Germany and Northeast Europe, analysis and interpretations of hermetic poetry.

He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

Germersheim Translator Lexicon

The Germersheimer Translators ' Dictionary, UeLEX, an online dictionary , is published by Kelletat. The biographical and bibliographical data recorded in him and his colleagues are intended to create the basis for a German cultural and literary history of translation (1500–2000) to be written. Currently (2020) it contains 67 translator biographies. It is the only dictionary of its kind. The work continues.

In 2018, the department organized the "6th Germersheimer Symposium on Translation and Literature", abbreviated to UeLit VI, with the topic of crossing borders. Translator and translation in the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR 1945–1990 .
