Jürgen Rennert
Jürgen Rennert (born March 12, 1943 in Berlin - Neukölln ) is a German writer .
Life
Growing up in West Berlin with his grandmother, Jürgen Rennert moved to live with his parents in Hohen Neuendorf in the GDR in 1953 . From 1959 to 1962 he trained as a typesetter , then became an assistant nurse in the hospital and from 1964 to 1975 worked as an advertising editor at the Volk und Welt publishing house . From May 1966 to November 1967 he did alternative military service as a construction soldier . From 1975 to 1990 Rennert worked as a freelance poet , essayist and translator . From 1990 to 2005 he was employed by the art service of the Evangelical Church in Berlin and its deputy director until the institution was closed.
In addition to his own poems and essays, Jürgen Rennert has emerged as an editor, translator and rewrite of literature from Yiddish (including Mark Rasumny , Scholem Alejchem , Israil Bercovici , Isaac Bashevis Singer ), Russian , Czech and Hungarian . Together with Jalda Rebling and Stefan Schreiner , he founded the Days of Yiddish Culture in East Berlin in 1987 and has since provided important impulses for dealing with Jewish culture .
Rennert has lived in Putlitz since October 2014, part of the Krumbeck community. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
