Kito Lorenc (2013)

Kito Lorenc (born March 4, 1938 in Runde / Slepo, Rothenburg district (Ob. Laus.) ; † September 24, 2017 in Bautzen / Budyšin) was a Sorbian- German poet, playwright and translator. He was the grandson of the Sorbian writer Jakub Lorenc-Zalěski .

Life

Kito Lorenc attended the Sorbian boarding school in Cottbus from 1952 to 1956 and studied Slavic Studies at the University of Leipzig from 1956 to 1961 . From 1961 to 1972 he worked at the Institute for Sorbian Folk Research in Bautzen / Budyšin. From 1972 to 1979 he worked as a dramaturge at the State Ensemble for Sorbian Folk Culture. He lived as a freelance writer in Wuischke / Wuježk near Hochkirch / Bukecy.

Kito Lorenc was a member of the Saxon Academy of the Arts and the PEN Center Germany .

Honors

On December 18, 2008, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies at TU Dresden .
