Calwer Hermann Hesse Prize

The Calwer Hermann Hesse Prize has been awarded since 1990 and is awarded by the Calwer Hermann Hesse Foundation founded by Südwestfunk Baden-Baden (today SWR ) and Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw in the same year .

The prize should not be confused with the Karlsruhe Hermann Hesse Literature Prize and the International Hermann Hesse Society Prize awarded by the International Hermann Hesse Society in Calw since 2017 .

Calwer Hermann Hesse Prize

The Calwer Hermann Hesse Prize is awarded every two years on Hesse's birthday (July 2nd), alternately to a German-language literary magazine and to a translator of Hesse's works. According to the statutes of the Hermann Hesse Foundation in Calw, the award criterion is “cultivating literary culture in the service and promoting international understanding in the spirit and work of Hermann Hesse.” The magazine award is sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Art supported. The award was originally endowed with DM 20,000 ; it was increased to 15,000 euros in 2002 and is now 20,000 euros (as of 2018).

The Calwer Hermann Hesse Scholarship has been awarded up to three times a year since 1995. It is awarded to German-speaking writers as well as foreign-language writers who translate works of art from German into their language. It is intended to enable the completion or completion of a major work. During this time, the scholarship holders live in Calw and take part in the life of the city. The scholarship consists in the apartment in Calw for three months, 2,000 euros per month during this time and a preparation and follow-up amount of 1,000 euros each. Self-applications are not possible.
