Michael Speier

Michael Speier (* 1950 in Renchen , Baden), actually Hans-Michael Speier , is a German author , translator, literary scholar , poet and editor.

Life

Michael Speier grew up in Berlin, where he also lives. He studied in Berlin at the Free University of Berlin , in Heidelberg, Paris and Chicago and received his doctorate in 1979 with a literary thesis on Jean Paul . He is the founder and editor of the literary magazine "Park" and the Paul Celan Yearbook .

After receiving his doctorate, he taught at universities in Germany and the USA and at the Leipzig Institute for Literature , DLL. Since 1997 he has been Adjunct Professor in the Department of German Studies at the University of Cincinnati . Speier translated contemporary poetry from English, French and Italian, he published poetry anthologies, for example in the Reclam publishing house , and published nine of his own volumes of poetry. He is represented with his poetry in over 50 anthologies and took a. a. participated in international poetry festivals in Medellín, Belgrade, Rosario / Argentina, Zurich, Malmö, Florence, Smederewo, Luxembourg, Novi Sad and Berlin.

He is a member of the New Society for Literature and in the PEN Center Germany .
