Fritz Paepcke
Fritz Paepcke (born June 6, 1916 in Berlin ; † February 18, 1990 in Budapest ) was a German Romance studies , translator and translation scholar.
life and work
Paepcke studied Romance and Latin Studies in Berlin, Leipzig, Paris and Munich. He received his doctorate in Munich in 1946 on The French Nominal Composition. A contribution to the expression of the modern language (unprinted). From 1947 to 1952 he taught at the Philosophical-Theological University of Regensburg , from 1952 he was head of the French department at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) at the University of Heidelberg, from 1966 until his retirement in 1981 as a professor. Then he taught as a visiting professor at the Eötvös Collegium in Budapest.
His grave is in the Bergfriedhof in Heidelberg.
