Hans-Christian Oeser
Hans-Christian Oeser (born June 12, 1950 in Wiesbaden ) is a German translator and editor who has lived and worked mainly in Ireland since 1980 .
Life
Oeser is the son of the musicologist Fritz Oeser and the concert singer Anna Maria Oeser, née Augenstein (1912-2010). From 1960 he attended the humanistic Friedrichsgymnasium in Kassel . After graduating from high school in 1969, he did his civilian alternative service in Wolfhagen with the disaster relief of the German Red Cross . He studied political science, philosophy and pedagogy from 1971 to 1977 in Marburg at the Philipps University and at the Free University in Berlin . In 1977/78 he was language assistant at the Orton Longueville School in Peterborough , England and at Deacon's School , Peterborough.
In 1978 he passed the first state examination and worked as a student trainee in Berlin-Wilmersdorf and Berlin-Schöneberg . Also in 1978 he received the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). In 1980 he passed the second state examination and received the title of study assessor . In the same year he went to Dublin . In 1989 he received his Diploma in Translation from the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) in Milton Keynes , England.
In Dublin he worked until 1983 as a DAAD lecturer for German language, literature and cultural studies at University College Dublin . In 1983/84 he was a lecturer at the National Institute for Higher Education , now Dublin City University . In 1983 he went back to University College Dublin until 1988 and taught German language and literature at the Goethe Institute in Dublin from 1984 to 2000 . Since then he has been dealing with his translations and various offices such as, from 2009, that of the secretary of the PEN center for German-speaking authors abroad .
In addition to these offices, Oeser was a member of numerous societies that deal with literature. He has also received several grants for work stays at home and abroad.
At the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2004, Oeser was a signatory of the Frankfurt appeal against the 1996 spelling reform .
He is a member of the PEN Center Germany and the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
