James Albert Murray (born July 5, 1932 in Jackson , Michigan - † June 5, 2020 in Kalamazoo , Michigan) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Kalamazoo .

Life

James Albert Murray studied at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit , St. John Seminary in Plymouth , Michigan, and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC On June 7, 1958, he was ordained priestly for the Lansing Diocese . There he initially worked as a parish pastor and became chancellor of the diocese in 1968, which he remained until 1997. From 1972 Murray was also chaplain of the Lansing Police Department. Pope John Paul II appointed him papal honorary prelate in 1993 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Kalamazoo on November 18, 1997 . The Archbishop of Detroit , Adam Joseph Cardinal Maida , ordained him episcopal on January 27 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Paul Vincent Donovan , Bishop Emeritus of Kalamazoo, and Carl Frederick Mengeling , Bishop of Lansing.

On April 6, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. Murray's age-related retirement.
