Carl Frederick Mengeling (born October 22, 1930 in Hammond ) is former Bishop of Lansing .
Life
The Bishop of Gary , Andrew Gregory Grutka , ordained him a priest on July 9, 1950 .
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Lansing on November 7, 1995 . The Archbishop of Detroit , Adam Joseph Cardinal Maida , ordained him episcopal on January 25 the next year ; Co- consecrators were Kenneth Joseph Povish , Bishop Emeritus of Lansing, and Dale Joseph Melczek , Coadjutor Bishop of Gary.
On February 27, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
