Anne Enright
Anne Enright (born October 11, 1962 in Dublin ) is an Irish writer and literary critic .
Life
After attending Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific in Vancouver , Canada , Enright studied philosophy at Trinity College in Dublin . She then went to the University of East Anglia on a scholarship and took creative writing with Angela Carter and Malcolm Bradbury . She worked for a total of twelve years as program director , producer and director for the children's program at Radio Telefís Éireann .
In 1991 her first literary work appeared, a volume of short stories under the title The Portable Virgin .
Enright lives in Bray , County Wicklow , is married to a theater manager and director and has two children.
Awards and honors
- 1991: Rooney Prize for Irish Literature for younger, emerging Irish writers for The Portable Virgin
- 2007: Booker Prize , the most important literary prize for an English-language work, for her novel The Gathering
- 2008: Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award for The Gathering
- 2012: Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction for The Forgotten Waltz (German: Anatomy of an Affair)
- In 2015 Anne Enright was chosen by the Irish Art Council as the first Poet Laureate in her country.
- 2015: Irish Book Award (Novel of the Year) for The Green Road
- 2016: Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award for The Green Road
- 2017: Shortlist of the International DUBLIN Literary Award with The Green Road
