Lester B. Pearson was deeply impressed by the United World College movement after attending Atlantic College in Wales, UK. Pearson was convinced that there should be more schools of this kind and tried to found the "Pacific College" on the Canadian west coast. He said at the time: “Students are invited regardless of their ethnicity, religion or political belief. We will establish a scholarship program so that students entering college come from all walks of life and are true representatives of their respective populations. This system ... could then become a revolutionary force in changing international education. ”Just before the project really began in 1972, Lester B. Pearson died. Pearson College was then established on his behalf as living memory in 1974.
