UWC Dilijan College is one of the 17 United World Colleges . It is the first international boarding school in Armenia . At college, the pursuit of peace, conscious interaction with nature and international understanding should not remain just abstract concepts, but should be experienced in everyday life. In addition, around 100 students from over 50 countries and all social classes with their respective cultural, religious and political attitudes live, live and learn together in a village-like community. All students are selected by the independent UWC National Committees solely on the basis of aptitude and ability. Scholarships ensure that parents' income is irrelevant when they are awarded. After two years of college, the International Baccalaureate can be obtained. From 2017 on, 8th grade students aged 13 and over will also be accepted. The academic program is then expanded to include the IGCSE .

The college

The school building is located halfway between the capital cities of Armenia and Georgia . The college was built on 88 hectares on the edge of Dilijan National Park. It was built according to plans by the London architect Tim Flynn.

The school was built according to the latest ecological standards. In addition to using renewable energies and the latest technologies, local materials and construction methods were also used.

Academic orientation

Teaching is in English according to the curriculum of the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva. Sport, art and music are an integral part of the offer. This also applies to "Community Services". Through these services, students are encouraged to become involved in their school, the surrounding community and their environment. At the end of the 2 years there is a final examination, which is centrally accepted and assessed worldwide. The International Baccalaureate Diploma is valid for admission to most universities worldwide.

The 96 students in the first year came from 50 nations, with 10 students from Armenia. The school is expected to reach its full capacity of 650 students by 2020. history

The school was initiated by Rouben Vardanian and his wife, Veronika Zonabend, who invested more than $ 115 million in school development. Other founding patrons are Gagik Adibekyan, Noubar and Anna Afeyan, Vladimir and Anna Avetissian and Oleg Mkrtchyan.
