Roland Kallan (born July 1, 1975 in Altenmarkt im Pongau ) is a former Austrian natural track tobogganer . From 1992 to 1995 he took part in the Junior European Championships and from 1999 to 2005 in World and European Championships . He achieved numerous top 10 results, but won no medals. In World Cup races , he was among the top three five times and twice achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup. In 2002 he became Austrian national champion in single seater. His brother Gerald was also a natural track tobogganist.

Career

Kallan participated from 1992 to 1995 in both singles and doubles in European Junior Championships . His best result was a fourth place in the doubles together with his brother Gerald at the Junior European Championship in 1994 in Längenfeld . A year earlier he had achieved fifth place in the two-seater with Gerhard Mühlbacher . From 1999 onwards, Kallan started in the general class only in the single-seater. At the 1999 European Championships in Szczyrk and the 2000 World Championships in Olang , he finished ninth.

From the 1999/2000 season , Kallan competed regularly in the World Cup . This winter he drove into the top ten in all six races, achieved fifth place as the best result at the start in Oberperfuss , came sixth three times and was sixth in the overall World Cup. The next winter was similar: In the 2000/2001 season he again finished all five World Cup races among the top ten, achieved his best result in fourth in Umhausen at the beginning of the season and was seventh in the overall World Cup. At the 2001 World Championships in Stein an der Enns , he finished eighth.

Kallan's best results of his career were in the 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 seasons . On January 13th, 2002 he was third in Umhausen for the first time on the podium in a World Cup race and two weeks later he reached second place at the World Cup finals in Železniki , placing him fifth in the overall World Cup. The next winter, Kallan took the podium three times. He finished third in Umhausen and second in both Hüttau and Olang and thus again achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2002 European Championships in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud , Kallan achieved his best result in championships with fourth place. He was 54 hundredths of a second short of a medal. In 2002 he became Austrian national champion in single seater. At the 2003 World Cup in Železniki, he finished seventh.

In the 2003/2004 season , Kallan did not get any more podium places. His best result was a fifth place at the start of the season in Olang and he fell back to eighth place in the overall World Cup. He finished tenth at the 2004 European Championships in his home town of Hüttau. Kallan only contested two races in his last World Cup season 2004/2005 . He was ninth in Unterammergau , sixth in the second race in Oberperfuss and 22nd in the overall World Cup. At his last major event, the 2005 World Cup in Latsch , he was 15th.
