The Russians Pawel Porschnew and Iwan Lasarew won the gold medal in the two-seater with the best time in the first race and the third time in the second race. It was the first two-seater world championship title for Russia and at the same time the first that did not go to Italy or Austria. The duo had already become European champions last year and two years ago they were second at the World Cup. The Italians Armin Mair and Johannes Hofer won silver . While Armin Mair had already become world champion with his brother David in 2000 , it was the only medal at a major event for Hofer, alongside the bronze medal in the team competition. After the Poles Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek were fourth in the first run, they secured the bronze medal with the fastest time in the second round. The defending champions Wolfgang Schopf and Andreas Schopf were only tenth.

For the second time, a team competition was held as part of the world championship. While only five teams from three countries took part in the premiere four years ago, this time ten teams from eight nations competed, with Italy, Austria and Russia each providing two teams and Germany, Poland and Slovenia one team. There was also a team in which Bulgarians and Canadians started. Team Austria I won both single-seater races, finished second in doubles and thus won the gold medal, six points ahead of team Russia I. Team Italy I and the team from Poland, which won the double-seater, landed just one point behind.
