Juri Harzula ( Ukrainian Юрій Гарцула ) is a former Ukrainian natural track luge . He started in the singles and doubles and took part in World Cup races as well as World and European Championships from 2002 to 2006 .

Career

Yuri Harzula participated in the 2001/2002 season for the first time in World Cup races in part in single seater. He started in the last three of the six races, achieved the best result in 26th place on his debut in Umhausen and was 42nd in the overall World Cup, tied with German Rudolf Schwarz . He then started at the 2002 European Championships in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud and the Junior World Championships in Gsies , where he finished fourth from bottom as 39th and 32nd respectively. In winter 2002/2003 Harzula took part in four of the six World Cup races and again a 26th place, this time in Kindberg , was his best result. In the overall World Cup, he was able to improve to 31st place with a total of three top 30 results, making him the best-placed Ukrainian for the first time, which he also succeeded in the next two years. At the end of this winter, he and Roksolana Byljakowska also competed in his first World Cup race in a doubles, but only achieved twelfth and last place. At the World Championships in 2003 in Železniki he did not come close to his World Cup results and only finished 41st place, also at the Junior European Championships in Kreuth he placed 37th only in the bottom field.

The 2003/2004 season was Harzula's most successful World Cup. He drove in all four races in which he participated in the fastest 30 and achieved his best World Cup result with 18th place in Moscow . However, the starting field in this race was very small and Hartsula's 18th place was also the last. At the finals in Aurach , however, he left ten tobogganers behind as 24th. In the overall World Cup he was able to improve to 25th place and thus achieved his best overall result. In the two-seater he only took part in one World Cup race this winter. He started together with Anatoli Hurin , who was also active on the artificial track , in Moscow, but only achieved last place in eighth place. At the 2004 European Championships , Harzula came 40th out of 46 tobogganers who started singing. At the 2004 Junior World Championships in Kindberg he only started in a doubles with Hurin, but was canceled.

In the 2004/2005 World Cup season , Juri Harzula could not quite match his previous year's results. Although he was among the fastest 30 in three races and achieved a 26th place as the best result in Unterammergau , he fell back ten places to 35th in the overall World Cup. This winter he contested four world cup races with Jewhen Prysjaschnjuk in a doubles seat . After suffering a failure in their first race in Unterammergau, they were only the last to cross the finish line in the other three races, but still finished 12th in the overall World Cup out of a total of 19 pairs of two-seater who won World Cup points this winter. At the 2005 World Championships in Latsch he only started in the single-seater and finished 39th. In his last season, 2005/2006 , Juri Harzula, like the entire Ukrainian team, only took part in the first three World Cup races. In the single-seater, his best result was 30th place in the opening race in Longiarü , in the overall World Cup he was ranked 38th. In the doubles-seater, he started again with Jewhen Prysjaschnjuk. They achieved two tenth and a 13th place as the last or penultimate and were tenth in the overall World Cup. Juri Harzula made his last international appearance at the 2006 European Championships in Umhausen . There he crossed the finish line in the single seater as 32nd and in the doubles with Jewhen Prysjaschnjuk as 13th.
