Karolina Waniczek (born November 1, 1983 in Szczyrk ) is a former Polish natural track tobogganist . She started in the World Cup from 2001 to 2006 , where she was among the top ten in ten races, and from 2003 to 2005 she took part in three World and European Championships , where she was twice in the top ten. In 2002, 2004 and 2005 she became Polish champion in single seater.

Career

Karolina Waniczek had her first international appearances at the Junior World Championship in 1999 in Hüttau and the Junior European Championship in 2000 in Umhausen , where she was only to be found in the bottom field with 15th place each. After she did not take part in the Junior European Championship 2001, she achieved ninth place at the Junior World Championship in 2002 in Casies , and was able to improve again with sixth place at the 2003 Junior European Championship in Kreuth . From the 2001/2002 season , Karolina Waniczek took part in World Cup races in addition to races in the Intercontinental Cup . However, this winter it was only used in the first two races in Olang and next winter only in the first World Cup race in Völs . She finished among the last four and came in 18th place in the 2001/2002 World Cup and 23rd in 2002/2003 out of 26 women who won World Cup points. Waniczek, who became Polish champion for the first time in 2002 , took part in a world championship for the first time in 2003 , but only came 18th out of 20 rated female tobogganers in Železniki, Slovenia .

In the 2003/2004 and 2004/2005 seasons Karolina Waniczek competed regularly in the World Cup. In winter 2003/2004 she took part in four of the six races and achieved her first top 10 results at the end of the season with ninth place in Triesenberg and seventh place in Aurach . In the overall World Cup she achieved twelfth place as the second best Polish woman. In the 2004/2005 season, the then 21-year-old was among the top ten in all six World Cup races, whereby, as in the previous year, a seventh place at the season finale, which this time took place in Olang , was her best result. In the overall World Cup, she was able to improve to ninth place, was the best of the Polish team and also achieved her best overall result personally. At the European Championships in 2004 in Hüttau , she reached sixth place and thus after the fifth place of Małgorzata Kabat in 1995, the second best result of a Polish woman at European Championships. Her result at the 2005 World Championships in Latsch was just as good . Here she reached eighth place and thus together with Ewa Więcek , who also took eighth place in 1980 , the best Polish Women's World Cup result up to that point. Two years later, however, Kinga Gawlas was one place better. At the 2005 World Cup, Karolina Waniczek, together with Damian Waniczek and Andrzej Laszczak, also took part in the team competition, where the Polish team took fourth place, just one point behind the third-placed Italians. In 2004 and 2005 she became Polish champion again.

In the 2005/2006 season , Waniczek only took part in the first two World Cup races in Longiarü and Kindberg and achieved two further top 10 results in seventh and ninth places, placing her 15th in the overall World Cup despite her only two starts occupied. After that she did not take part in international competitions, but started again in 2007 at the Polish Championships , where she was third.
