Jure Potočnik (* 1986 ) is a former Slovenian natural track tobogganist . He started in the single seater and, together with Mario Gortnar, also in the double seater.
Career
Jure Potočnik took part in a junior world championship for the first time in February 2002 and was 25th in the single-seater in Gsies . After he had already contested races in the Intercontinental Cup, he took part in World Cup races for the first time in January 2004 . In Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he started both in the single-seater, where he finished 31st, and in the double-seater, where he and his partner Mario Gortnar came in ninth. Mario Gortnar and Jure Potočnik formed the only Slovenian double in the World Cup during their playing days. This was followed by the Junior World Championship in 2004 in Kindberg , where Potočnik was 21st in the singles and with Gortnar reached the sixth place in the doubles. At the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau , Gortnar / Potočnik only came in 15th and penultimate place; Jure Potočnik did not start in the single-seater. At his next World Cup starts in February 2004 in the parallel competition in Triesenberg , the Slovenian achieved the best results of his career when he reached 18th place in the singles and eighth in the doubles. In doubles, Gortnar / Potočnik also took part in the final in Aurach , where they finished ninth and thus also achieved ninth place in the overall World Cup for the 2003/2004 season . In the single-seater Potočnik came 37th overall.
In the winter of 2004/2005 Jure Potočnik and Mario Gortnar took part in all six World Cup races in the doubles, but they still did not get any top positions. With two tenth and three eleventh places as well as one retirement, they achieved more World Cup points than in the previous year, but could not improve in the overall standings and came in ninth again. Jure Potočnik only took part in three World Cup races in a single-seater. His best results were two 21st places in Unterammergau and Oberperfuss , which made him 29th in the overall ranking. At the 2005 World Championships in Latsch , Gortnar / Potočnik finished in twelfth place in the doubles as in the European Championship last year. They started together with Živa Janc and Borut Kralj in the team competition, but also came here in ninth place only on the penultimate place. Jure Potočnik did not start again in the single-seater. After his long-time partner Mario Gortnar ended his career as a natural track toboggan in 2005, Jure Potočnik took part in single-seater competitions in the 2005/2006 season. In the World Cup, he only contested the first race in Longiarü , where he was 23rd, and then took part in the 2006 European Championship in Umhausen and the Junior World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he was 28th and 21st respectively. After that, Jure Potočnik also ended his international career in natural track luge, but continues to take part in roller luge competitions.
