A week later he achieved 14th place in the single-seater at the 1999 Junior World Championships in Hüttau , but only came in sixth and last place in the double-seater, almost 16 seconds behind. With another sixth place in Aurach , Alimow / Molwistow finished the overall double-seater World Cup of the 1998/1999 season in seventh place, in single-seater Alimow achieved 27th overall, tied with Poland's Waldemar Siąkała . In mid-February, Alimow achieved 17th and penultimate place in single-seater and doubles at the 1999 European Championship in Szczyrk - his first title fight in the general class - and the duo Alimow / Molwistow came in fifth, but also only penultimate place.

In the 1999/2000 season Alimow was able to score points in all six World Cup races in the single-seater. He drove into the top 20 five times and achieved 16th place at the finals in Fénis as the best race result . He achieved 17th place in the overall World Cup and thus his best overall result in the single-seater. In the two-seater he was able to score five times with Roman Molwistow. In the last three World Cup races, the duo made it into the top five and thus achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2000 World Cup in Olang Alimow and Molwistow were sixth in the doubles. For the time being, Alimow competed in a single-seater for the last time at major events and was 23.

In the first two World Cup races of the 2000/2001 season , Alimow only competed in a single-seater. At the start in Umhausen he achieved his best World Cup result in a single-seater with 13th place. After that, he was only once again in the top 20, did not take part in the last two World Cup races and finished 21st in the overall World Cup. In the two-seater duo Alimow / Molwistow achieved second place in the third World Cup race in Lüsen , the first in which they participated this winter, the first podium and at the same time the best result in a World Cup race of their career. Two third places followed in the last two World Cup races in Moscow and Hüttau, bringing them to fifth place in the overall World Cup, as in the previous year. At the 2001 World Championships in Stein an der Enns , Alimow did not start in either a single or double-seater. In the 2001/2002 season Denis Alimow drove in the single-seater in five World Cup races under the top 20 and was 22nd in the overall World Cup. In the doubles, he took part in four World Cup races with Roman Molwistow. They reached two sixth and one fifth place, but also dropped out once and finished seventh overall. At the European Championships in 2002 in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud , they were fifth in the doubles.

The duo Alimow / Molwistow only took part in two World Cup races in the 2002/2003 season. They finished fifth, ninth and twelfth in the overall standings. Even in the single-seater, Alimow only started in three World Cup races. He achieved placings between 15th and 18th place and was 26th in the overall World Cup. At the 2003 World Championships in Železniki Alimow / Molwistow were fifth in the doubles. In the 2003/2004 season Alimow started in the single seater only in a World Cup race, but scored no points. The duo Alimow / Molwistow only competed in two World Cup races in the doubles. At the start in Olang they finished ninth and at the end of January they reached third place in Moscow, their first podium finish in three years, which made them tenth in the overall World Cup. Two weeks later they celebrated their greatest international success when they won the silver medal in the doubles at the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau, 0.65 seconds behind their compatriots Pawel Porschnew and Iwan Lasarew .

In the 2004/2005 season Alimow started in the single-seater only in the last World Cup race, which he finished in 28th place. In the two-seater, however, Alimow / Molwistow again took part in five of the six World Cup races. They were among the fastest seven in all races and achieved two third places in Unterammergau and Latzfons as their best results , which is the third time in their career that they achieved fifth place in the overall two-seater World Cup. At the 2005 World Championships in Latsch , they were sixth in the doubles. They also started for the first and only time in the team competition and together with Julija Wetlowa and Alexander Jegorow took seventh place in the Russia II team. In the 2005/2006 season Alimow did not take part in any single-seater World Cup races. The duo Alimow / Molwistow started in the doubles only in the first three races, in which a fifth place in Kindberg was their best result and they finished tenth in the overall World Cup. Then they took part in the European Championship 2006 in Umhausen , where they won the bronze medal with the fourth fastest time behind Porschnew / Lasarew and the Austrians Schatz / Mühlbacher . In the single-seater Alimow did not start in the second run after the 31st run in the first run.

For the first time in seven years, Alimow and Molwistow started in the 2006/2007 season in all six two-seater World Cup races. In five races they were among the fastest seven and achieved fourth place in Longiarü as their best result , which meant they were seventh in the overall World Cup. Alimow took part in two World Cup races in a single-seater, but only achieved places 25 and 29 and in the overall ranking 40th. At the 2007 World Championships in Grande Prairie , Alimow / Molwistow were disqualified, as were three other couples, because the rails of their toboggan reached the maximum permitted temperature have exceeded. In his last season 2007/2008 Alimow started only in three double-seater World Cup races. He achieved seventh and two ninth places with Roman Molwistow and thus twelfth place in the overall World Cup.
