At the European Junior Championships in 1998 in Feld am See , he finished 19th in the single-seater, but fell out of the doubles with Petrow.

From 1999 Molwistow started in a two-seater with Denis Alimow . On January 24, 1999 he made his World Cup debut in the Italian Canale d'Agordo , was 17th in the singles and sixth with Alimow in the doubles. A week later he achieved 16th place in the single-seater at the 1999 Junior World Championships in Hüttau , but only came in sixth and last place in the double-seater, almost 16 seconds behind. With a further sixth place in Aurach , Alimow / Molwistow finished the overall double-seater World Cup in the 1998/1999 season in seventh place, in the single-seater Molwistow finished 20th overall. In mid-February at the European Championships in Szczyrk in 1999 - his first title fight in the general class - he achieved 18th and last place in single-seater and in doubles, the duo Alimow / Molwistow came in fifth and penultimate place.

In the 1999/2000 season Molwistow was able to score points in five of six World Cup races in the single-seater. He drove under the fastest 20 four times and achieved two 16th places as the best race results in Oberperfuss and Stein an der Enns . He achieved 19th place in the overall World Cup and thus his best overall result in the single-seater. In the two-seater he was able to score five times with Denis Alimow. In the last three World Cup races, the duo made it into the top five and thus achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2000 World Championships in Olang Molwistow was 27th in the single and sixth with Alimow in the doubles.

After Roman Molwistow did not start in the first two World Cup races of the 2000/2001 season in either a single or double seater, the duo Alimow / Molwistow took second place in the third World Cup race in Lüsen , the first in which they participated this winter, the first Podium and at the same time the best result in a World Cup race in her career. Two third places followed in the last two World Cup races in Moscow and Hüttau, bringing them to fifth place in the overall World Cup, as in the previous year. In the single-seater Molwistow started only in two World Cup races, achieved a 21st and a 16th place and was 24th in the overall ranking. At the 2001 World Championships in Stein an der Enns , Molwistow only started in a single-seater, but did not finish. It was his last appearance in a single seater in international championships. In the World Cup he started in three single-seater races in the 2001/2002 season , achieved a 19th place in Hüttau as the best result and, as in the previous year, was 26th of the overall World Cup, this time tied with the Slovenian Borut Fejfar . After that, he only started in the doubles in the World Cup. In the winter of 2001/2002 Alimow / Molwistow competed in four world cup races in doubles. They reached two sixth and one fifth place, but also dropped out once and finished seventh overall. At the European Championships in 2002 in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud , they were fifth in the doubles.

Roman Molwistow and Denis Alimow only competed two World Cup races in the 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 seasons . In 2002/2003 they were fifth, ninth and twelfth overall; In 2003/2004 they achieved a ninth place at the start in Olang and with third place in Moscow their first podium finish in three years, which made them tenth in the overall World Cup. Two weeks later they celebrated their greatest international success when they won the silver medal in the doubles at the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau, 0.65 seconds behind their compatriots Pawel Porschnew and Iwan Lasarew . At the 2003 World Cup in Železniki they were fifth. In the 2004/2005 season Molwistow and Alimow again took part in five of the six World Cup races. They were among the fastest seven in all races and achieved two third places in Unterammergau and Latzfons as their best results , which is the third time in their career that they achieved fifth place in the overall two-seater World Cup. At the 2005 World Championships in Latsch , they were sixth in the doubles. They also started for the first and only time in the team competition and together with Julija Wetlowa and Alexander Jegorow took seventh place in the Russia II team.

In the 2005/2006 season Alimow / Molwistow started only in the first three World Cup races, in which a fifth place in Kindberg was their best result and they were tenth in the overall World Cup. Then they took part in the European Championship 2006 in Umhausen , where they won the bronze medal with the fourth fastest time behind Porschnew / Lasarew and the Austrians Schatz / Mühlbacher . For the first time in seven years Molwistow and Alimow started in the 2006/2007 season again in all six two-seater World Cup races. In five races they were among the fastest seven and achieved fourth place in Longiarü as their best result , which meant they were seventh in the overall World Cup. At the 2007 World Championships in Grande Prairie , Alimow / Molwistow were disqualified, as were three other couples, because the rails of their toboggan exceeded the permitted maximum temperature. Roman Molwistow and Denis Alimow only contested three World Cup races in their last season together, 2007/2008 . They achieved a seventh and two ninth places and came in twelfth place in the overall World Cup. They finished sixth at the 2008 European Championships in Olang.

After Denis Alimov's career ended, Roman Molwistow started with Stanislaw Kowschik in the 2008/2009 season . They took part in the first four World Cup races of the winter, achieved eighth, two ninth and tenth places and were tenth in the overall World Cup.
