Arnold Brügmann

Arnold Brügmann (born March 14, 1912 in Lüchow (Lauenburg) , † June 24, 1995 in Hamburg ) was a German historian and archivist .

Life

After graduating from the Theodor Mommsen School in Bad Oldesloe, Brügmann studied history and philosophy at the Universities of Freiburg i. Br. , Dorpat and Heidelberg . Since 1931 he was a member of the Alemannia Freiburg fraternity . He received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1934 . In 1935 he became deputy head of the SD school in Berlin and in November 1936 head of the Reich department for cultural studies in the Reich student leadership . In 1937 he completed his habilitation at the University of Jena and in the winter semester of 1938/39 he became a lecturer in Middle and Modern History at the University of Berlin . In 1939 he took over the management of the Institute for German Student History in Würzburg . In 1942 he became head of the main archive of the NSDAP , and in 1943 an adjunct professor for Medieval and Modern History at the University of Munich .

Brügmann had been a member of the NSDAP since 1931 (membership number 579,639). In 1935 he joined the SS (membership number 107,400), where he was promoted to SS-Hauptsturmführer in 1939 .

After the Second World War he lived in Celle , Dortmund and from 1962 in Hamburg. In 1959 he became a lecturer at the State Engineering School in Dortmund and in 1962 at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences .

In the Soviet occupation zone , his previous habilitation thesis was Rome's Struggle for Man. Foundations of Catholic politics at the end of the 19th century were placed on the list of literature to be sorted out in the edition published by Lehmann in Munich in 1939 . This list was followed by Brügmann's Die Papstkirche between the revolutions of 1789 and 1933 ( Nordland-Verlag , Berlin 1943) in the German Democratic Republic .
