The Theodor Mommsen School (TMS) is a high school in Bad Oldesloe named after the historian and author Theodor Mommsen . In the 2012/2013 school year, around 1,250 students attended.

history

In 1765, the rector of the city school Johann Wilhelm Lensch gave private lessons in Latin and French . In 1802 DG Rode founded a higher private school .

In 1866 an attempt was made by the city to set up a secondary school, but this failed due to the resistance of many citizens, as they saw too high a burden on the city. Dr. Spannuth then set up a private high school for boys in the rooms of the city school and in 1869 hands over the management to a Mr. Schroeter, who continues it as a private secondary school in Oldesloe in the Badelogierhaus, but soon ran into financial difficulties.

From 1875 onwards, the Schroeter private school was temporarily operated under municipal supervision, but the Prussian government did not approve the establishment of a higher middle school in 1876. In 1877 permission was given to build a middle school . In 1878 the school moved from the lodging house to the Herrenhuter house on the Moravian Mountain.

In 1881 the school was granted the rights of a higher civil school. In 1882 the school was renamed Realprogymnasium , in 1895 it was converted into a Realschule. From 1906 the school is admitted to the Abitur . In 1909 a new school building is inaugurated, which was built behind the old one. In 1912, the first students graduate from high school, and the school is officially run as a nine-year high school . In 1920 girls were also accepted from the Obersekunda .

In 1943, after air raids on Hamburg , the school building was used as an emergency shelter for refugees for a longer period of time , and briefly in 1945 as a military hospital . In air raids , there is damage to the building. After the English invasion , the school is renamed High School for Boys .
