Stanislaw Wladimirowitsch Kowschik ( Russian Станислав Владимирович Ковшик ; * April 26, 1991 ) is a Russian natural track tobogganist . Like many Russian natural track tobogganers , he comes from Kandalakscha , starts in a single-seater and also in a double-seater. Kowschik has reached three podium finishes in the World Cup so far, one of which was a victory and was the first Russian to achieve a podium in a single-seater. At world championships he won the silver medal in team competition in 2013 and 2019 and the silver medal in team competition at European championships in 2014. At the European Junior Championships in 2011 , he won the bronze medal in the doubles.

Career

Stanislaw Kowschik took part in international junior championships from 2007. At the European Junior Championships 2007 in St. Sebastian he started only in the doubles and achieved fourth place with Iwan Rodin . Only 13 hundredths of a second were missing from a medal. At the Junior World Championships 2008 in Latsch , however, he only started in the single-seater and was 15th. He also achieved 15th place in the single-seater at the 2009 Junior European Championship in Longiarü and the 2010 Junior World Championship in Deutschnofen . In the two-seater he came in fifth place in these two years, in 2009 with Ilya Korobow and in 2010 with Ilya Tarasov .

Kowschik has been competing in the World Cup since the 2008/2009 season . In his first winter in a single-seater, he was among the fastest 25 in five of the six World Cup races and achieved 18th place in the penultimate race in Nowouralsk as the best result . He finished 20th in the overall World Cup and was therefore the best Russian. In the two-seater, he competed in the first four World Cup races with Roman Molwistow , who was ten years his senior and who had already achieved several podium finishes with Denis Alimow . Each time they came under the top ten and achieved the best result in eighth place in Unterammergau , which made them tenth in the overall World Cup. At the 2009 World Championships in Moos in Passeier , his first title fight in the general class, Kowschik achieved 24th place in the singles and with Molwistow ninth place in the doubles. In the 2009/2010 season , Kowschik achieved similar results in the single seater as in the previous year. Again he was among the fastest 25 in five of the six World Cup races and again was 18th, this time at the season finale in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , his best result. In the overall World Cup, however, he dropped two places to 22nd. After Roman Molwistov's resignation, he only competed in a double-seater World Cup race with Ilya Tarasov , with whom he then also took part in the Junior World Championship. They took tenth place in Latsch . At the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian, Kowschik started with Maxim Batunin in the doubles. They achieved tenth place out of twelve rated two-seater pairs. After finishing 24th in the first run, he did not start in the second run in the single-seater.

In the 2010/2011 season , Kowschik was able to improve his World Cup results. In the single-seater he was 13th in the second race in Nowouralsk and 12th in the season finale in Olang for the first time among the fastest 15th. In the overall single-seater World Cup, he improved to 18th place. Kowschik and Ilya Tarasov competed in five of the six World Cup races in a two-seater. They achieved their best result with fifth place in Olang and achieved sixth place in the overall World Cup. At the 2011 World Championships in Umhausen , Kowschik / Tarassow achieved ninth place in the doubles and together with Lyudmila Aksenenko as Team Russia II, seventh place in the team competition. Kowschik did not start in the single-seater. A week later Stanislaw Kowschik and Ilja Tarassow won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships 2011 in Lasa . In the single seater, Kowschik reached fifth place.

In the winter of 2011/2012 Kowschik's results improved further: In the first single-seater World Cup race of the 2011/2012 season , Kowschik finished ninth in the top ten for the first time. A week later, with third place in Olang, he became the first Russian in the men's singles to achieve a World Cup podium. In the further course of the season he was only once again among the top ten, but with seventh place overall he achieved the best result ever achieved by a Russian in the overall single-seater World Cup. Kowschik also achieved good success at the 2012 European Championships in Novouralsk: He finished ninth in the single-seater and was the first Russian in the men's single-seater to make it into the top 10 at European Championships (and also World Championships). In the team competition he took sixth place with Lyudmila Aksenenko and the doubles Jegorow / Popow in the Russia II team. This winter, Kowschik started in a two-seater with Iwan Rodin . They took part in all six World Cup races, achieved positions around 10th place and finished eighth in the overall World Cup. At the EM, however, the double was not at the start.
