Alexander Sergejewitsch Jegorow ( Russian Александр Сергеевич Егоров ; born October 26, 1985 in Kandalakscha ) is a Russian natural toboggan runner . He also starts in the single seater, but achieves his greatest success in the doubles. Together with his partner Pyotr Popow , he was runner-up in the world championship in 2007 , won seven bronze medals and one silver medal at European championships, and was junior European champion in 2005 . In the World Cup , the doubles have won three races so far and achieved another 31 podium places.

Career

His first appearance in an international competition was Alexander Yegorov on 19 January 2003 at the World Cup races of Moscow , where he and Pyotr Popov finished eleventh and penultimate place in the doubles. Popov, who previously drove with Mikhail Trufanov , remained his two-seater partner from now on. Two weeks after the World Cup debut, Jegorow achieved twelfth place in the single-seater at the 2003 Junior European Championship in Kreuth and fifth in the double-seater with Popow. A further week later, the duo Jegorow / Popow took tenth place at the 2003 World Cup in Železniki , while in the single-seater Jegorow came 31st. As in the previous season , Jegorow / Popow only took part in the 2003/2004 World Cup race in Moscow . This time they finished sixth out of eight doubles. At the 2004 Junior World Championships in Kindberg , Jegorow was 14th in the single-seater and fourth in the doubles, and at the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau , 22nd in the single-seater and sixth in the doubles.

In the next two years, Alexander Jegorow and Pyotr Popow started in several World Cup races. In the 2004/2005 season they took part in four out of six races, each time they came under the top eight and thus finished eighth in the overall World Cup. On January 23, 2005, Alexander Jegorow started in a single-seater World Cup race for the first time in Latzfons and finished 26th. In the 2005/2006 season they started the first three World Cup races, achieving fifth place in Longiarü and Olang and fifth place in Kindberg eight and finished seventh in the overall double-seater World Cup. In the single-seater Egorov did not take part in any World Cup races this winter. Alexander Jegorow achieved great success at the Junior European Championships in 2005 in his hometown of Kandalakscha . Together with Pyotr Popow, he was almost three seconds ahead of the Austrians Mario Schernthaner and Siegfried Truppe, Junior European Champion in the two-seater. Two Russian two-seater couples had already succeeded in doing this. In the single-seater, Yegorow reached fifth place as the only Russian so far a top 10 placement at junior European championships. At the 2005 World Championships held a month before in Laces he was 24th in the singles, seventh in the doubles and also seventh with the Russia II team in the team competition, together with Julija Wetlowa , Denis Alimow and Roman Molwistow . At the 2006 European Championships in Umhausen , Jegorow / Popow achieved eighth place in the two-seater, but this time Jegorow did not start in the single-seater.

Alexander Jegorow and Pyotr Popow have competed in all World Cup races since the 2006/2007 season and celebrated their first and so far only World Cup victory on January 14, 2007 in Umhausen when they were 16 hundredths of a second ahead of the Russian number-one double Pavel Porschnew and Ivan Lazarev came to the goal. Another podium place - third place on February 9th in Moos in Passeier - as well as a total of five places among the top seven helped them to fourth place in the overall World Cup and thus their best result in the overall standings. Alexander Yegorov was also at the start again in the single-seater. He took part in four of the six World Cup races, drove three times under the fastest 20 and achieved 15th place in Longiarü as the best result, making him 23rd in the single-seater World Cup and thus also his best overall result. Alexander Jegorow and Pyotr Popow also showed their good form at the 2007 World Championships in the Canadian Grande Prairie , where they won the silver medal in the doubles, 1.42 seconds behind their compatriots Porschnew / Lasarew, and together with Julija Wetlowa as Team Russia II fourth in the Team competition were. Yegorov did not take part in the single-seater competition.

In the 2007/2008 season , Alexander Jegorow started again only in the two-seater. The duo Jegorow / Popow first achieved two seventh places, then came twice under the top five and ended the season with two third places in Železniki, which they achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup. At the European Championships in Olang in 2008 they won the bronze medal behind their compatriots Porschnew / Lasarew and the Italians Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara . In the single-seater, Alexander Jegorow took 15th place and achieved the best result that a Russian natural track tobogganist had achieved in the single-seater at the European Championships. Previously, Denis Alimov's 17th place at the 1999 European Championship was the best result. In the 2008/2009 season Jegorow / Popow remained without a podium. Their best result was fourth place in Deutschnofen , twice they came fifth and all other races they finished at least in the top eight. In the overall World Cup, however, they fell back to seventh place - just one point behind sixth-placed Christian Schatz and Gerhard Mühlbacher . Alexander Jegorow also contested three World Cup races in single-seater, was twice 15th and once 21st and 28th in the overall World Cup. At the 2009 World Cup in Moos in Passeier, Jegorow was the best Russian in single-seater, while the duo Jegorow / Popow in doubles took fifth place immediately behind their teammates Porschnew / Lasarew. In the team competition Alexander Jegorow and Pyotr Popov - again with Julija Wetlowa as Team Russia II - came in eighth.

At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season , Jegorow / Popow again achieved two podium places in the World Cup; they achieved third and second place in Novouralsk . After that, however, they did not make it into the top five in any World Cup races and were only able to improve by one place to sixth in the overall World Cup. Alexander Jegorow started two World Cup races in the single-seater and achieved positions around 20th. At the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian , Jegorow / Popow won the bronze medal in the double-seater - this time behind Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara as well as the Poles in Olang Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek . In the single-seater, Alexander Jegorow again achieved 15th place as the best Russian, just like two years ago. In addition, Alexander Jegorow and Pyotr Popow - starting together with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa for the first time in Team Russia I - fifth in the team competition. In the first race of the 2010/2011 season , Alexander Jegorow achieved his best single-seater result in the World Cup with eleventh place in Nowouralsk. However, this was also his only single-seater start this winter. Even in the doubles, Jegorow / Popow only took part in the first two World Cup races in Nowouralsk, where they finished fifth and third.

In the 2011/2012 season , Jegorow / Popow started again in five of the six World Cup races, occupied places between fifth and tenth place and finished ninth in the overall World Cup. Egorov took part in four races in a single-seater. He achieved a 13th place in Novouralsk as the best result and equaled his best single-seater overall result with 23rd overall. At the European Championships in 2012 in Novouralsk, Yegorov finished 15th in a row for the third time in a row, while he was seventh in doubles with Pyotr Popov. Jegorow / Popow finished the team competition with Lyudmila Aksenenko and Stanislaw Kowschik in team Russia II in sixth place.
