history
Latzfons was first mentioned in writing in a document from the period between 1050 and 1065 as "Lazevunes". The written certificate with the Rhaeto-Romanic -es at the end is a product of the Ladin language formerly spoken in the Eisack Valley . The meaning of the place name is either Latin lati fundi or latifundium ('wide fields', see Latifundium ) or Latin lacea-funis from laceare and funis ('rope knitter' or 'Seiler' as a business / farm name).
From 1211 court days in the place are occupied. The comparatively little developed place can be reached via the main road from Feldthurns or via the so-called old Pucherstraße through the narrow valley of the Tinnebach . The parish church of St. Jacob , which was first mentioned in a document in 1153, is worth seeing . The place is the starting point for some hiking tours in the Sarntal Alps , the hike to the Latzfonser Kreuz , one of the highest pilgrimage sites in Europe , is particularly worth mentioning .
