Iwan Wladimirowitsch Lasarew ( Russian Иван Владимирович Лазарев ; born November 4, 1983 in Kandalakscha ) is a Russian natural track tobogganist . He also started in the single-seater and was one of the best in his country, but is especially successful in the double-seater with his partner Pawel Porschnew . With three world championship titles , five European championship titles and four overall World Cup victories, they form one of the most successful two-seater pairs.
Career
Lasarew started from 1999 for the time being without any major success at international junior championships and took part in a world cup race in a single-seater for the first time on January 23, 2000 in Gummer , but was disqualified after the second round. A week later he started in Olang for the first time at a world championship . He achieved together with Alexei Lebedew only the ninth and at the same time last place in the two-seater and the 36th place in the single-seater. Lasarew's next World Cup start followed on February 11, 2001 in Moscow , where he reached eleventh place. This result remained his best single-seater World Cup result for several years.
Since the 2001/2002 season , Lasarew has been racing in a two-seater together with Pawel Porschnew . In their two races of the season they were only able to classify themselves in the bottom field of the World Cup and also only finished last at the European Championships in Frantschach , but at the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Casies they won the silver medal in the doubles. Lazarev finished the single-seater competition of the Junior World Championships in eighth position.
In the 2002/2003 season the two-seater couple Porschnew / Lasarew managed to rise to the top of the world. At the beginning of the season they stood on the podium for the first time in Völs and on January 19, 2003 they celebrated their first World Cup victory in Moscow . After another victory in Kindberg , they were able to overtake the Polish doubles Andrzej Laszczak and Damian Waniczek in the overall standings by ten points with a second place at the final in Olang , thus securing the overall World Cup victory in their first full season. In the single-seater World Cup, Lasarew finished 18th overall. At the 2003 World Championships in Železniki , Slovenia , Porschnew / Lasarew, who had become Junior European Champions a week earlier in Kreuth , won the silver medal behind the Austrians Wolfgang and Andreas Schopf . In the single-seater, Lazarev finished 29th.
In the 2003/2004 World Cup season , the Russian double achieved two wins and another three podium places. At the finals in Aurach they achieved the same total number of points with a third place as the Austrians Schopf / Schopf, who finished the last race in second position. Due to the better result (fourth place at Porschnew / Lasarew versus fifth place by Schopf / Schopf), the Russians won the overall double-seater World Cup for the second time. As in the previous year, Lazarev finished 18th in the single-seater World Cup, making him the best Russian in the overall ranking. In the next two years he was the best of the Russian team in the single-seater World Cup with a 19th and an 18th place overall. At the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau , Porschnew / Lasarew won the gold medal in the two-seater ahead of their compatriots Denis Alimow and Roman Molwistow .
The duo Porschnew / Lasarew managed only one victory in the 2004/2005 World Cup season . In the overall standings they fell behind the Austrians Beer / Kögl with three wins and the Poles Laszczak / Waniczek with two wins to third. At the 2005 World Cup in Laces , however, the Russians were unbeatable. They won the gold medal in the two-seater ahead of the Italians Armin Mair and Johannes Hofer and, together with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa and Alexei Lebedew, the silver medal in the team competition, behind Team Austria I.
In the 2005/2006 season Porschnew / Lasarew won two World Cup races in Grande Prairie and achieved another three podium places. In the overall standings they were only beaten by the Austrian doubles Christian Schatz and Gerhard Mühlbacher , who also celebrated two victories this season. At the European Championship 2006 in Umhausen Porschnew / Lasarew prevailed against the Austrians Schatz / Mühlbacher and they became European champions for the second time with the best times in both rounds. Lazarev finished the single-seater competition in 25th place.
Overall victory in the 2006/2007 season went to the Austrians Schatz and Mühlbacher with three race wins. Pawel Porschnew and Ivan Lasarew achieved four second places, but remained without a win and thus in the overall standings 30 points behind the Austrians in second place. At the 2007 World Championships in the Canadian Grande Prairie, where Porschnew / Lasarew had won both World Cup races last year, they were also successful this time. With two fastest times and a lead of 1.42 seconds on their compatriots Alexander Jegorow and Pyotr Popow , they secured the world title for the second time in their careers. In the single-seater, Lasarew achieved his best result at World and European Championships with 19th place. In the team competition, the Russia I team, in which he started, was disqualified because the temperature of the rails on his toboggan was too high.
In the 2007/2008 World Cup season , the Porschnew / Lasarew duo, like all the other two-seater pairs, had to admit defeat to the outstanding Italian duo Patrick Pigneter and Florian Clara , who won all six World Cup races. With four second, one third and one fifth place, the Russians achieved second place in the overall World Cup for the third time in a row. They were only able to beat the Italians at the European Championships in Olang in 2008 and thus became European champions for the third time in a row, something that only the brothers Andi and Helmut Ruetz from Austria could achieve before . In the winter of 2007/2008 Lasarew was able to classify himself for the only time in all single-seater World Cup races of a season. His best race result was eleventh place at the finals in Železniki, with which he reached 15th place in the overall World Cup. Lasarew thus achieved his best overall result and he was the best Russian in single-seater for the fourth time.
Also in the 2008/2009 season Porschnew / Lasarew took second place in the overall World Cup behind Pigneter / Clara. They started the season with two wins in St. Sebastian and Umhausen, but the Italian doubles were able to win all other races. At the season's highlight, Porschnew / Lasarew, who had won all the world and European championships in doubles in the last five years, were without a medal in this discipline for the first time since the 2002 European Championships. At the 2009 World Championships in Moos in Passeier, they only achieved fourth place in the doubles, but won bronze with the team.
In the 2009/2010 World Cup season , Porschnew / Lasarew won a race in Nowouralsk and achieved second place in the overall World Cup for the fifth time in a row with a further four podium places and for the third time behind Pigneter / Clara. Their worst season result they achieved at the European Championships 2010 in St. Sebastian, where they were only sixth. In the 2010/2011 season Porschnew / Lasarew achieved a victory in Novouralsk and a further four podium places, as in the previous year, making them second in the overall World Cup for the sixth time in a row. For the first time in twelve years, Ivan Lazarev did not take part in a World Cup race in a single-seater. At the 2011 World Championships in Umhausen , Porschnew / Lasarew became world champions in doubles for the third time after 2005 and 2007 and won the bronze medal in team competition for the second time in a row with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa and Juri Talych in Team Russia I.
In the 2011/2012 season Porschnew / Lasarew achieved four wins and two second places, which is the third time and the first time in eight years that they have won the overall double-seater World Cup. They were also victorious at the 2012 European Championships in Novouralsk , where they won the championship title in doubles for the fourth time and the team competition for the first time together with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa and Yuri Talych.
