Melanie Schwarz (born July 18, 1989 in Schlanders ) is an Italian natural track tobogganist . She won the bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships and the 2008 Junior World Championships and has been in the World Cup since 2006 .

Career

Black first took part in a Junior European Championship in February 2005 and achieved eighth place. In the 2005/2006 season she competed in her first two World Cup races . On her debut on January 15, 2006 in Kindberg , she reached fifth place, which remained her best World Cup result for four years. A week later she also started in Olang , where she finished tenth. At the end of the month she took part for the first time in a title fight in the general class, the European Championship 2006 in Umhausen . Here she achieved tenth place. In February she was sixth at the Junior World Championship 2006 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

In the 2006/2007 season , Schwarz competed in three World Cup races. Her best result was a sixth place at the start of the season in Latsch . At the Junior European Championship 2007 in St. Sebastian she finished seventh, at the World Championship she was not at the start. In the Intercontinental Cup this winter, she achieved third place overall with a win in Navis and two third places tied with her compatriot Evelin Lanthaler . With four top 10 places, with her best result again being a sixth place, Schwarz was among the top ten in the overall World Cup for the first time in the 2007/2008 season . In February 2008 she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Latsch behind Melanie Batkowski and Evelin Lanthaler, and a week later she was eighth at the 2008 European Championships in Olang.

At the start of the 2008/2009 World Cup season in St. Sebastian, Schwarz had a hard fall and both legs were broken. After several months of rehabilitation, she returned to competition in winter 2009/2010. When she made her comeback in the World Cup, she reached sixth place on January 10, 2010 in Umhausen . A week later she started at the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian, where she had so badly crashed the previous year, and also achieved sixth place. In the World Cup followed another two sixth places and a fifth place in Latzfons , which she achieved in the overall World Cup with sixth place, her best result so far.

In the 2010/2011 season , in which, as in the previous year, she did not take part in the two opening races in Novouralsk , Schwarz achieved her best World Cup results with two fourth places in Gsies and Olang . She finished seventh in the overall World Cup. The greatest success of her career so far was at the 2011 World Championships in Umhausen, when she won the bronze medal in the single-seater behind Renate Gietl and Jekaterina Lavrentjewa . In addition, she finished fifth in the team competition together with Hannes Clara , Florian Breitenberger and David Mair in Team Italy II.

At the beginning of the 2011/2012 season , Schwarz achieved her first podium in the World Cup with third place in Latzfons . In the other five World Cup races of the winter, she achieved fourth place four times, ending the season behind Jekaterina Lavrentjewa and Renate Gietl in third place in the overall World Cup. At the European Championships in 2012 in Novouralsk, she was fifth in the singles and in the team competition.
