Hannes Clara (born February 18, 1990 in Bruneck ) is an Italian natural toboggan runner . So far, he has won two world cup races in a single-seater as well as the bronze medal at the European championships in 2012 and has been one junior world and one European champion . He has competed in the World Cup in doubles since 2011/2012. His older cousin Florian Clara is also a natural track tobogganist.

Career

Clara celebrated her first big success at the age of 15 when he surprisingly won the gold medal at the Junior European Championships 2005 in Kandalakscha with a lead of only one hundredth of a second over Patrick Pigneter . In the next winter he just missed another medal at the Junior World Championships in 2006 in fourth place and also in the Junior European Championships in 2007 he was again just behind the medal ranks in fourth.

Clara has been competing in the single-seater World Cup since the 2006/2007 season . In his very first race on January 21, 2007 in his home country Longiarü he reached third place. At the end of the season, he stood on the podium for the second time in Moos in Passeier , with which he achieved eighth place in the overall World Cup. At the Junior World Championships 2008 in Latsch , Clara won the silver medal in the single-seater behind his compatriot Christian Schwarz and, together with his cousin Florian, also won silver in the double-seater. In the same year he also took part in the title fights in the general class for the first time at the European Championships in Olang in 2008 . He finished sixth in the single-seater.

In the 2007/2008 World Cup season , Clara's only podium was second in Latsch . With a total of four top 10 results, he was seventh in the overall classification. In the 2008/2009 season , Clara only finished on the podium once. However, he was able to place himself in the top ten in all six World Cup races, making him sixth overall. In 2008 and 2009 he was Italian junior champion in single seater. At the 2009 Junior European Championships in Longiarü, he won the silver medal in the single-seater at the Junior World Championships, this time behind the Austrian Thomas Schopf . He stayed just outside the medal ranks at the 2009 World Cup in Passeier : He finished fourth in both the singles and team competitions.

On January 24, 2010, Clara celebrated his first World Cup victory in Latsch. Two weeks earlier he had finished second in Umhausen . In the overall World Cup of the 2009/2010 season , despite these results, he only reached eighth place because he only took part in three races. The end of January, he was in German oven junior world champion in single-seaters, but at the European Championships in 2010 in St. Sebastian , he remained in sixth place with no top result. He did not succeed in this at the 2011 World Cup in Umhausen. He was tenth in the singles and fifth in the team competition. In the World Cup, Clara only took part in two races in the 2010/2011 season , which he finished in seventh and twelfth places, which is why he fell back to 23rd place in the overall World Cup.

In the 2011/2012 season , Clara again took part in all six World Cup races. He showed consistently good performances and, with the exception of the first competition, achieved second place in every race behind Patrick Pigneter , with which he also finished second in the overall World Cup. For the first time this winter he also took part in doubles races in the World Cup. He started together with Stefan Gruber , finished sixth to tenth in the six races of the season and finished seventh in the overall World Cup. At the 2012 European Championships in Nowouralsk , he won the bronze medal in the single-seater behind Pigneter and Michael Scheikl , while in the double-seater he was sixth with Stefan Gruber and fifth in the team competition with Melanie Schwarz , Alex Gruber and Stefan Gruber.
