At international competitions he only starts in the singles and is currently one of the strongest athletes in his country in this discipline. At the 2011 World Championships he won the bronze medal and at the 2012 European Championships the gold medal in the team competition; in world cup races he has been in the top ten three times. His best overall result is seventh place in the 2012/13 season .

Career

Yuri Talych took part in international junior championships from 2007. At the Junior European Championship 2007 in St. Sebastian he finished 21st and at the Junior World Championship 2008 in Latsch he was ranked 18th, both as the second best Russian. On January 18, 2009, he contested his first World Cup race in Umhausen , which he finished in 27th place. In the rest of the winter he did not take part in any other competitions. Since the 2009/2010 season Talych competes regularly in the World Cup. This winter he contested five of the six races of the season and only did not take part in the World Cup final in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He finished in the top 20 in all races and achieved his best result with twelfth place in Novouralsk at the start of the season. As a result, he was the only Russian in the single-seater to achieve more than 100 World Cup points and was 20th in the overall ranking. At the 2010 European Championships in St. Sebastian, his first international title fight in the general class, Talych was the second-best Russian in the single-seater and finished eighth in the team competition together with Lyudmila Astramowitsch , Pawel Silin and Ivan Rodin in Team Russia II. At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Deutschnofen , which took place two weeks later , he was the best in his country and came 13th in the single-seater.

In the 2010/2011 season , Talych was once again the best single-seater driver in his country. After narrowly missing the top 10 twice in the opening races in Nowouralsk, he finished tenth in the top ten for the first time in the third race of the season in Gsies . After that, his results deteriorated, but he still reached eleventh place in the overall World Cup. At the 2011 World Championships in Umhausen, he finished 17th in the single-seater. He was the only Russian who competed in the single-seater - everyone else hadn't started. In the team competition, Talych won his first bronze medal in Team Russia I with Jekaterina Lavrentjewa , Pawel Porschnew and Ivan Lasarew . He benefited from the good times of his teammates, because Talych only clocked the seventh best time in his run.

In the 2011/2012 season Talych drove in two World Cup races under the top ten (eighth place in Olang and sixth in Nowouralsk), which he finished tenth in the overall World Cup. He celebrated the greatest success of winter at the 2012 European Championships in Novouralsk, when he won the gold medal in the team competition with Team Russia I in the same composition as at the World Cup last year. He also reached eleventh place in the single-seater.
