Günther Innerbichler (born October 6, 1983 in Innichen ) is a former Italian natural track luge . He mostly started in the two-seater with his brother Alex Innerbichler , only in his last active year with Johannes Hofer . He won three medals at Junior World Championships and European Championships and achieved four top 5 placements in the World Cup and a total of three fifth places at the 2005 World Championships and the 2006 European Championships .

Career

Günther Innerbichler and his two years younger brother Alex Innerbichler took part in international junior championships from 2000 and won three medals. In the Junior European Championship in 2001 in animal they won the silver medal at the Junior World Cup 2002 in her hometown Gsies and the Junior European Championship 2003 in Kreuth each bronze.

At the beginning of the 2001/2002 season , the Innerbichler brothers took part in two World Cup races for the first time in Olang . In the first race they finished eighth in penultimate place, in the second they were without a result. In the next two years they each took part in four of the six World Cup races. While a fourth place in Umhausen was their best result in winter 2002/2003 , they achieved their best World Cup result in the 2003/2004 season with third place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In both years they took seventh place in the overall World Cup. In the 2004/2005 season they took part in five World Cup races, but this time they did not get above sixth place. They finished seventh again in the overall World Cup. Günther and Alex Innerbichler contested their last joint race on December 10, 2005. In the opening race of the 2005/2006 season in Longiarü , they finished seventh.

Günther and Alex Innerbichler achieved similar results in championships as in the World Cup. At the European Championships in 2002 in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud and in 2004 in Hüttau they took eighth place and at the World Championships in 2003 in Železniki they came in seventh. They achieved their best results at the 2005 World Championships in Latsch , when they achieved fifth place in the doubles and also fifth place in the team competition - together with Irene Mitterstieler and Martin Psenner in Team Italy II. In 2004 and 2005, they achieved second place at the Italian championships behind Armin Mair and Johannes Hofer .

After Günther Innerbichler had contested the last race with his brother at the beginning of the 2005/2006 season, who then did not participate in any competitions, he started the rest of the winter together with Johannes Hofer, whose previous double partner Armin Mair had ended his career. Innerbichler and Hofer took part in a World Cup race in Olang on January 20, which they finished in ninth place, and also started an Intercontinental Cup race in Laas , where they finished sixth. At the 2006 European Championships in Umhausen they came in fifth. Günther Innerbichler also ended his career after the winter.
